While we may not love Interstate 95 (which would be better named a parking lot), we’ve got a lot to be thankful for in Northern Virginia. It was difficult to narrow my list to just 10 things, but I’ve come up with my top 10 list. Check it out to see if mine matches up with yours!
10. Fall Leaves
Look out any window right now, and you’re sure to be met with an array of colors. I love the crisp temps we are finally getting to enjoy, and the beautiful show that the change of seasons brings to our area.
9. Wine Country
This one needs little elaboration! We live in the midst of so many celebrated and gorgeous wineries (and distilleries and breweries, for that matter!). Enjoy some tastings with friends and family at our wineries this fall for a truly decadent experience.
8. History in Our Own Backyards
Everywhere you turn in Northern Virginia, there’s a history lesson just waiting to be learned. From the Marine Corps Museum and its new Children’s Gallery to Manassas National Battlefield Park, there’s so much to explore! Plan a visit to Old Town Manassas and stroll through the beautiful historic districts and quaint shops. Go to nearby Chantilly to experience the Sully Historic Site. Or head a little further south to Fredericksburg to take a trolley ride, dine on wonderful food, and stroll the historic streets and venues.
7. Fantastic Amenities
Counties in Northern Virginia get it right when it comes to libraries and parks. We’re surrounded by great places for children to play, athletic trails to explore and libraries with extensive calendars of events. With just a glimpse you’ll find something to fill an evening or a weekend afternoon with fun.
6. Festivals, Parades and Celebrations
In Northern Virginia, we know how to celebrate! There are fall festivals on our farms, parades down historic streets like in Manassas, and celebrations all around us. Breweries deliver special events. And nonprofits organize wonderful health fairs and community fundraisers. If you live in Northern Virginia, you should never have to utter the words “I’m bored. There’s nothing to do!”
5. Proximity to Our Nation’s Capital
I don’t know about you, but I LOVE being close to D.C. A quick hop on the metro and you can be present for historical events, political rallies, concerts, sporting events, nightlife and more. Not to mention the fantastic museums, monuments and historical sites.
4. Great Schools
We are blessed with great schools in Northern Virginia. Our teachers are preparing our students well for the future through daily instruction, incredible specialty centers, strong athletic programs and a variety of enrichment programs.
3. Strong Communities
So many times I’ve witnessed the strength in our communities. Whether it’s rallying together to support a local nonprofit’s 5K, schools gathering winter coats for those less fortunate or community groups volunteering to clean up local roadways through the Adopt a Highway program, we come together again and again. Our communities have heart!
2. Variety of Housing Options
It’s so easy to find exactly what you’re looking for in NOVA. We’ve got condos with no maintenance, townhomes to rent or own, starter homes, larger single-family homes, gated communities, golf course communities and more! Pair these options with great schools and warm communities, and it’s easy to see why so many choose to call NOVA home.
Remember, I’m a realtor. What else did you expect me to say? But I am truly thankful for the location in which we live. We’re a short drive from the beach; a hop, skip and a jump from the mountains; and less than an hour from D.C. Plus we’ve got great transportation and multiple airports, making travel a breeze. NOVA really is THE location to be in.
There’s so much to be thankful for this season and every day in our area. I send my greatest gratitude to my clients for trusting me with your real estate needs and for referring your friends and family. You help me pursue my passion and make me a success!
I wish you all a happy Thanksgiving filled with quality time with family and friends, delicious food, and time for relaxing.
