Prince William County has seen many changes over the years. But one thing has stayed strong and steady — our school system! You don’t have to search too hard to discover that PWC features some of the best schools in the state, which is very exciting. It’s easy to see why our schools have such a great reputation and why so many wish to join us in beautiful and thriving Prince William County.

Best High Schools in Virginia According to U.S. News and World Report

Don’t want to just take my word for it? Well, how about the word of U.S. News and World Reports? Prince William County has had schools listed in the top 25 in the state many years in the past, and 2017 is no different. This year, Patriot High School in Nokesville was ranked number 15th in the state. Osbourn Park High School in Manassas was 19th, and Battlefield High School in Haymarket was 25th. These impressive schools have graduation rates of above 95 percent and many students participate in their Advanced Placement classes, allowing them to enter college a little extra prepared. These honors are a reflection of the principals, teachers and students here in Prince William County.

Prince William County Schools Accreditation Results

While no county is absolutely perfect, PWC schools should be very proud of their high levels of accredited schools. Out of 88 county schools, 79 are fully accredited — pretty awesome! And some that are not fully accredited do feature conditional and partial accreditations, showing working progress. To read more about how schools receive their accreditation, visit the Virginia Department of Education’s Standards of Accreditation page. These rules for accreditation were established to hold Virginia schools to the high standards across the state, and PWC is doing an excellent job of adhering to them!

Specialty and Gifted Centers Aplenty

If you’re looking for specialized education, Prince William County delivers. From language centers to international baccalaureate programs and JROTC programs to science and technology centers, PWC offers unique, tailored experiences that foster a passionate, hands-on approach to learning. Check out the full listing of schools and their featured programs on the PWCS website.

Prince William County “Schools of Excellence”

Within PWC, we go a little bit further in recognizing schools that are really outstanding. The county school board recognizes “School of Excellence” recipients each spring. In 2017, 47 schools received this honor and included a wide range of schools from elementary on up to high school. This is the highest recognition awarded by the school board. Schools must be fully accredited, show marked improvement in achievement gaps and have a certain overall PWCS score as measured by the school board.
