It’s vacation season! Family and friends all around me are planning their summer getaways. If you have a week or more, it’s usually no problem to travel as far as you like. But if you have only a few days off, or you just plain hate to travel for hours at a time, finding an escape within a few hours of home may sound much more appealing. Here are a few of my favorite spots, all within four hours or less of Northern Virginia.
Virginia Beach
If it’s sand and waves you crave, Virginia Beach may be your perfect destination. It’s not too far away, but it has the tropical feel vacationers look for. The boardwalk offers dining, nightlife, activities, resorts and a variety of hotels and motels to stay in. If you’re looking for a quieter beach escape with the family, nearby Sandbridge offers quaint beach houses and more solitude. The Virginia Beach area is a fun local option for soaking in some sun, sand, and R and R.
Lake Escapes
Not into waves and prefer still water? We’ve got some great lakes to retreat to only a few hours from home. Lake Anna is quite close to us and offers cabins, single-family homes and condos for rent. Smith Mountain Lake in Roanoke is a bit further but also offers a variety of rentals and a fun escape for families or couples. And lastly, try a rental at Buggs Island Lake in Clarksville, the largest lake in Virginia. Lake vacations are great for water skiing, fishing, boating, swimming and more. Just remember your sunscreen and bug spray!
Resort Stays
For many, vacation means kicking back, relaxing in one spot and living it up in luxury. Resort stays are perfect for this type of escape. We have several within less than four hours of Northern Virginia. Try The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs and experience fine dining, luxurious spa treatments, fitness centers and pool, and more. Or visit Kingsmill Resort and Spa in Williamsburg for similar offerings with golf, a marina and family friendly activities. Lastly, you could check out The Tides Inn on the Chesapeake Bay for boating, golfing, dining and relaxation in their Journey Spa.
Williamsburg
Williamsburg is a great place for couples and families alike. Spend a day in Colonial Williamsburg soaking in the history, quaint shops and beautiful scenery. On another day, unleash your inner kid at Busch Gardens or Water Country. And on yet another day, visit their premium outlets to snag the best deals on clothes, shoes and more. Yorktown is right nearby for added history, sunbathing and dining, too!
We know how great we’ve got it in Prince William County and the surrounding areas, and these beautiful and convenient vacation spots are another added bonus! I hope you get to escape for some fun this year. And remember, if you or someone you know is looking to buy or sell a home, let’s talk!
Warmly,
~ Marcia
