I love Manassas! We’re just a hop, skip and a jump from the beach, the mountains, Washington D.C. and more. But what I love most is how much there is to do without even leaving town. Check out these fun upcoming events in Manassas.
Historic Downtown Tours
Every Thursday and Friday at noon, meet at the Manassas Museum to launch your free historic walking tour. You’ll enjoy a narrated tour of historic downtown by a costumed guide. Learn why the battles of Manassas weren’t actually fought in Manassas and other tidbits of our community’s past. These tours are offered April through October.
Prefer to see the sites on two wheels? Meet at the museum May 7 or June 4 at 9 am to take a two-hour bicycle tour. Your tour will include historic Civil War encampments, local parks and other important spots.
Manassas Air Show
If you love planes, you won’t want to miss the 2016 Manassas Air Show on May 7. There will be plenty of ground activities, as well as skydivers, helicopters, jets and aerobatic aircraft in the air. This event is free to the public. Visit the Air Show Facebook page for more details.
“Let’s go fly a kite. Up to the highest height.” Pick up Mom and journey back to your childhood with the Center for the Arts’ performance of Mary Poppins! Catch performances Saturday May 7 and Sunday May 8. Ticket costs range from $12-20.
Hylton Performing Arts Center
For a variety of shows in the area, check out the Hylton Performing Arts Center’s calendar. Upcoming events include several Shakespeare Opera Theaters, NOVA Youth Ballet: Peter and the Wolf, and Manassas Symphony Orchestra. Tickets are available online for each event.
Bull Run Annual Local Authors Fair
Meet authors from your local community, learn about their experiences and have the opportunity to purchase signed copies of their books! You’ll even be able to glean some info on writing, publishing and selling to help you with your own work. The authors fair will be at Bull Run Regional Library from 2 – 4 p.m. on May 21.
Reading to Dogs
Could your young reader use some extra practice and a boost in confidence? You’ll find the most captive audiences at Reading to Dogs programs through the local library. Take a peek at the Prince William County library calendar to find events closest to you. This heart-warming program pairs therapy dogs with emerging readers to help bolster skills and for a love of reading!
Seniors in our area can hop on board a bus with peers and take affordable trips throughout this summer!
